WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Surfers Healing is the original surf camp for children with autism. Pro surfers and amateurs have been taking kids to learn the joy of surfing since 1966. Their motto is to ride waves and change the world!
Nikki Bascome of Surfers Healing Wrightsville Beach says the camps “are a wonderful way to see kids smile.”
The organization sponsors 23 camps in five countries around the world. All camps are free for attendees.
Surfers Healing offers volunteer-staffed camps giving over 4,500 children with autism and their families a fun, engaging day at the beach each year.
Surfers paddle out together on tandem boards to catch waves and help kids get on the board.
Bascome says the camps positively impact children with autism and helps instill confidence.
You can get involved by joining a camp, make a gift of money or in-kind donation or volunteer.
